Happy ax-mas (as they say in the north-eastern-most part of my country) and stuff. ;)

First-draft excerpt from book two of my novel-in-progress, The Amorpheum Key (Mermaid Theatre). It's a steampunk tale about children bred as psionic weapons by the requisite mad scientist and Monarchy, but they grow older & escape, leaving a trail of love and destruction...basically.

'Sleep, Tezcatlipoca. Pull your night around you and let the dreams come. Stalk the shadows in your slumber, and place for me a pyramid of gold on the mindless plains of the desert, to protect and honour me till the morning comes and scatters you and I in its wake, back into grains of sand, lost on the whispers of the wind, till the nightingale's song reunites us again, with the first music of the stars. Sleep, my brother. Sleep.' )
